Ochromonas
Ochromonas is mixotrophic and can utilize a variety of feeding processes. The cells can make their own food through photosynthesis, but can also uptake both dissolved organic nutrients and particulate organic matter, including intact cells. The remains of bacteria and small algae can sometimes be observed within Ochromonas cells.

The genus is planktonic and usually found in oligotrophic freshwater environments, but can also be marine. There are at about 80 known species, several of which are quite common.
