Coleochaete
During asexual reproduction, Coleochaete
produces biflagellate zoospores without eyespots
that are discharged through a special pore. The zoospores attach to a suitable substrate, develop
a cell wall, and through a series of divisions grow into a new thallus with the same morphology as
the parent. Clonal populations can grow rapidly.

Coleochaete reproduces sexually through oogamy, forming biflagellate male gametes and flask-shaped oogonia with long trichogynes.
