Ochromonas Wyssotzki
From Greek ochros, "pale yellow"
+ Greek monas, "unit"

Ochromonas is a single-celled, motile, golden- brown alga. The cells are usually rounded at the anterior and tapered to a posterior point and each have one or two golden-brown, plate-like plastids. The cell anterior sometimes bears an eyespot and contractile vacuoles. Ochromonas is often considered the "model chrysophyte" used to explain the cellular morphology and function of the group.

The genus Spumella includes colorless cells that are otherwise similar in morphology to Ochromonas.

Each Ochromonas
cell has plate-like
chloroplasts, an
eyespot, and two
unequal flagella.
