Cosmarium
There are over 1000 species of Cosmarium. Quite a few are cosmopolitan, and over 400 are found in North America. The genus is most common in acidic, oligotrophic, aquatic habitats but may also be found in subaerial environments or alkaline, eutrophic ponds and lakes.
