- Botrydiopsis is a yellow-green alga with a simple
coccoid form, meaning that the cells are spherical, nearly spherical,
or rod-shaped. The cells may be solitary or in irregular clusters,
and range in size from 10 µm to 150 µm in diameter.
The cell wall is smooth and composed of a single unified piece.
Young cells usually have a single parietal chloroplast, while
older cells have multiple plastids as well as multiple nuclei.
Botrydiopsis cells have disk-shaped chromatophores.
