Botrydiopsis Borzi

Botrydiopsis is a yellow-green alga with a simple coccoid form, meaning that the cells are spherical, nearly spherical, or rod-shaped. The cells may be solitary or in irregular clusters, and range in size from 10 µm to 150 µm in diameter. The cell wall is smooth and composed of a single unified piece. Young cells usually have a single parietal chloroplast, while older cells have multiple plastids as well as multiple nuclei. Botrydiopsis cells have disk-shaped chromatophores.

Botrydiopsis has been found in lakes and pools in North America, and has been reported in British Columbia and parts of the United States.

This yellow-green alga is known to reproduce through autospores, zoospores, and aplanospores.
